Bus from Florence to Siena and back

My husband and I will be visiting Tuscany, Italy in March. We fly into Florence and then need to get to Siena the same day. Four days later we will be returning to Florence for a stay there.

Does anyone have current information on what bus to take from Florence to Siena, and back again? We have read that there are slow buses and fast buses. We prefer a fast bus.

Any information is appreciated!!!

Shuttle buses run 2x/hour from Florence airport to Florence train station (the next stop after the train station, though very close by), from where you can change for a direct bus to Siena (also about 2x/hour).

We took the bus from Florence to Sienna a few years ago and it was delightful. The view is pretty and the bus system seemed very organized. We did not stop anywhere along the way so I assume we were on the fast bus.

You want to take a #131R, not a #131O. The R is faster; the "O" makes additional stops, so it's slower.

I liked the bus system. I used it to get from Rome to Siena, from Siena to the beach, from Siena to Florence. No problems!

Thanks everyone for your responses. And thank you for the specific information regarding bus schedules, websites, and bus numbers. It is very helpful!!!!

If anyone has any further tips on bus travel, inexpensive restaurants where locals hang out, tours etc., we'd love to know.

Thanks again and happy travels!

Sincerely,
V

There are a couple of restaurants I really like in Florence, one is Il Caminetto ion Via del Studio near the Duomo, the other is Osteria Ganino in Piazza dei Cimatori (a little farther from the Duomo). Both have locals and some tourists.
