I’m planning to take the bus to Siena for a day trip, but when I googled directions from my Airbnb to the bus station, it says it’s permanently closed. I ended up having a really tough time getting a fast train from Roma Termini to Florence even though everyone said it was easy, and that was after I got overwhelmed and potentially paid too much for the Leonardo Express (a trenitalia worker suggested I do tap to pay with my card, so I did, but I have no idea what it cost), so specific details are greatly appreciated! For what it’s worth, I’ve had to fight back tears of joy a few times today (probably because I’m jet lagged) simply while wandering around the city. It is all so unbelievably beautiful and I can’t believe I’m really doing this on my own. I do love it here so much, and this forum has been so helpful.
It’s right next to train station

Glad you're enjoying your trip.
I"d be very surprised if the bus station was permanently closed. We took the bus from Florence to Siena in November. The bus station was right across from the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella--on the opposite side, if you're coming from the river.
Hi KRS,
Have a wonderful time in Italy! Brush off your jet lag day and enjoy your next day. : ). I’m glad the Trenitalia worker was able to help you purchase your ticket. Here’s a fun post from the past of fellow travelers’ stress reducers:

The bus you want from Florence to Siena is the 131R.
Hi KRS,
The bus station in Florence is easy to find, and very unlikely to be closed!
If you are right outside the railway station facing the station front, cross the street with the tram tracks, to the left of the station.
Walk along about half a block along that street: Via Santa Caterina da Siena, and you'll see an opening on your right , into the bus station.
The ticket office is inside, on the left, and they are very helpful.
Be sure to also buy a ticket to return to Florence, so you don't have to look for a ticket desk before coming back to Florence from Siena.
So glad you are loving Florence, it's my favourite city too!

KRS, having followed your plans for this previously COVID-cancelled trip for, oh, some two years now, hooray for you for FINALLY getting there! It is a joy indeed to hear that, train confusion aside, you are having such a good time so far. I thought Florence was very beautiful too. :O)
When you get back, can you explain a bit why you had difficulties with the train tickets? The discussion may be helpful to others who will be doing that same thing.
We took bus to Siena from Florence about 3 weeks ago. It was easy to find the bus station and walked there from apartment using Google map, across street at rear of train terminal on right if facing terminal. What wasn't easy at that time was to actually purchase a bus ticket. The normal ticket office was closed and no machine for that line was onsite - they had moved to a location some 5-10 minute-walk away. I can't tell you where exactly, as another member of the group RAN to the ticket office to purchase tickets for 4 of us while the bus driver waited (bless him!). As noted above, bus 131R was the rapid one, with no other stops. Easy and pleasant once the ticketing part was accomplished.
Thank you, Sharon, for the update on the bus and ticket office. We will be arriving in Florence on April 22 and plan to take the bus to Siena that day. Does anyone know the actual address of the ticket office?
