Bus from Amalfi to Salerno

How reliable are the buses between Amalfi and Salerno?

There are no ferries departing Amalfi early enough to get us to Salerno for our 9:23 a.m. train to Rome. I am trying to decide whether it makes more sense to take an early bus or try to re-schedule to a later train.

HI there,

We just back from Italy and had that same challenge getting from Maiori to Salerno to catch a train to Florence. I opted for a later train and we took the ferry. It was a gorgeous ferry ride to Salerno! That being said, we took the bus many times from Sorrento to Positano for the day, Amalfi to Ravello, etc. We had to stand every time as the buses were full. We were fine with it as they were also much cheaper than the ferry. You also want to know how far the bus station is from the train station if you opt for that.
In Salerno, the train station is about a 5-7 minute walk from the ferry. It may be tricky taking the bus with your luggage if the bus is full. Those are the considerations to help you decide. Personally, I would opt for the ferry.

This past April I took the bus from Amalfi to Salerno at about 6:30am. My train in Salerno left at about 8:45am. There were just a few people on the bus in Amalfi.

There seems to be buses at 6:30 and 7:15 to get you there around 7:45 and 8:30, so I would aim to be ready to be at the bus stop by 6:15am just in case.....if one doesn't show up, I sure the other would.....but if neither, then you still have time for a taxi (which would be stupid expensive)....It isn't common for TWO buses not to show up, but I hope you are going in a weekday, as your options are greater :)

There are at least bars near the station that will probably be open by then, if not the one in the station will definitely be open to get a breakfast snack....
