Bus Florence to Siena -- is it a scenic ride?

This is my sister's first trip to Europe and I would like her to experience a bit of the Tuscan countryside if possible. Is there another day trip from Florence that would be more suitable?

Terri, I considered that Bus trip to be "scenic", but of course that's just a personal opinion. I think Siena would be a perfect day trip for you and your sister. After seeing Siena, you may wish you could stay for a few days! Happy travels!

I remember it being pleasant but there are certainly more scenic rides in the area. You won't be seeing the best of Tuscany along the way. Sienna is a wonderful town and I''m sure that you will enjoy your visit.

We took the bus from the Florence airport to Siena, and I can't remember it being scenic at all. It was all stops in town to pick and off passengers. The bus ride was just a way to get from one city to the next. There weren't a lot of beautiful views at all! (mostly buildings, then just the side of the highway) you should look into a bus trip to a smaller hill top town, like San Gimignano or Volterra...she can take the bus in the morning, explore the town, and go back to Florence late afternoon.

Siena is a great place to visit as a large hill town. We spent 5 days there and did some day trips out. We took the express bus from Siena to Florence and it was ok but not like exploring the Chianti country side or some of the more rural areas. Chianti is very close to Florence but difficult by public bus. I am sure there are day tour buses that would go into Chianti or San Gimginano areas that would give you a flavor of the country side. We really enjoyed Siena. Lee
