I will be in Florence in a couple weeks. I plan to take the bus to Siena on Sunday May 26 since I read in the RS guidebook that the bus is better/faster than the train. My question is - do I need to make bus reservations in advance? If so, how long beforehand and how do I do that? Or can I just show up at bus station on that day? Thank you for your help! Veronica

Very frequent buses, so there is no need to preschedule or prepay.

I thought I remember reading that bus service on Sunday's is almost non existent.

No need for reservations. Bus schedule is limited on Sundays and Holidays. Bus schedule is below. Go to table 131 O/R and 131 R/R (Rapid bus) after page 65. The schedule at 131/O (Ordinary) make more stops, therefore at that point it's faster to take the train to Siena (which on Sunday is more frequent than buses). http://www.trainspa.it/train04/extraurbano.pdf or you can use the search below (which refers to the timetable above): http://www.busfox.com/timetable/ (enter FIRENZE and SIENA in the origin and destination boxes and date and time of travel).
