Bus - Fiumicino/Naples/Sorrento?

Which option is the easiest? Both require transfers

Rome Termini to Tiburtina, direct bus to Sorrento - Is there a second bus company that runs other than 6 Am and 5 PM?
Or
Train from Rome Termini to Naples Central and train to Sorrento?

I have not done the bus. I have done the train. That was very easy. I'd do it that way again with no hesitation.

Thank you, David, but just realized I will be at the train station , not airport!

Starting from FCO? Fiumicino Aeroporto to Napoli Centrale.; change at Termini. Get the Trenialia app.

At Napoli Centrale you have two options. If your hotel is an easy walk from the Sorrento station [as taxi fares are high], one of the trains downstairs at the Garibaldi station:

https://www.sorrentoinsider.com/en/campania-express-train-schedule [seasonal, much more comfortable]

If perchance visiting Pompeii later on, you would get off at Pompeii Scavi.

A driver [Sorrentocars, or other company] to your hotel about €80 [€400 from FCO].

We did the Tiburtina Station, direct bus to Sorrento. This was 10 years ago though. It you want immersion into how typical Italians travel, this is an experience. :)

If you are at the train station, take the train -- far more comfortable.

From Roma Termini your best bet is a 70 minute train to Naples Centrale, then a switch at the same station--I think you go downstairs--to the Circumvesuviana commuter train to Sorrento station, which is just under an hour. Both lines run all day, at least every hour, the CV every half hour. It's easy and inexpensive, probably around a total of 30 Euro for both runs combined. Then find out how far your hotel in Sorrento is from the station. On the marina might require a taxi--up in town should be a relatively easy walk.

If you are coming in late at night, if you've never done it I wouldn't ride the CV, however, and would opt for an expensive transport from Naples direct to your hotel, which could run as much as 100 Euro. The Circumvesuviana is not really dangerous, just a little skeevy from the gypsies and ragamuffin musicians that frequent the line, and do their fair share of panhandling. During the day they're an amusing annoyance, easily ignorable, at night they could be a little menacing, although I'm a cheap-a** and I've ridden the Chicago subway so I'm used to it.

Two years ago we flew into FCO and were going to Sorrento and had the same issue. I found the bus Fiumicino express directly from the terminal we arrived at that went non stop (some trips they do stop, but not ours) to Napoli Centrale bus station. The NC bus station is literally 15 steps from the train station. To continue to Sorrento, you have to go to the lower level for the Circumvesuviana train. It was inexpensive, clean, quiet and very easy. The bus did not have a bathroom on it (just so you know) and we were actually the only Americans on the bus. We paid cash (euros) for the bus at FCO since I didn’t make reservations. Our flight was actually 1.5 hours early due to strong tailwinds, usually our flight is always late! You can always take the LE train to termini from FCO and then go via Freccia train to Naples, but that would be more expensive, as I would recommend NOT to buy the tickets ahead of time in case you miss the train. That was our back up plan if the bus didn’t work out. If you need any more guidance, pm me.
