Has any one taken a bus/car tour to the Amalfi Coast and then ride a ferry or boat back to Sorrento? I'd like the informative tour on the way down the coast with stops in a few of the towns and boat trip back to Sorrento or to Capri.

Hi Marcia, I have done that twice using two separate forms of transportation. You can take buses between the towns which can be very crowded, or you can go with a guided tour like Monetti's taxi service. Otherwise you can take boats to most of the towns on the coast with a small harbor. A good use of time would be to do exactly what you had mentioned about: bus or boat to one of the towns and then back. I would also take a look at Rick's section on traveling this region in his current Italy guidebook. He'll have lots of info on boats, buses, local tours, etc. I hope this helps some.
