Burano

How do you get to Burano only by vaporetto. I do not want to go to Murano as I have been there before.

one way is the Number 12 from F.te Nove "A". Takes 43 minutes, stopping at Murano Faro (lighthouse) and Mazzorbo on the way. The way to avoid Murano is to stay seated when it arrives at Murano and just wait for the vaporetto to start moving again. Just like staying on a train when it stops at a station you don't want to get off at.

It goes every 20 minutes.

Would also suggest getting on the vaporetto early morning, around 8-830, so that there are no other tourists when you get there. The streets will be pretty much empty, and great for photos. You can probably walk every street in about 45 minutes, then when the shops open you will be able to browse before crowds arrive.

hey hey lesleycrocker
one of my favorite islands. we got off at mazzorbo, had a glass of wine and chacuterie tray (tratorria alla maddalena) right off the ferry stop at an outside table overlooking water, roamed around this small island and crossed over wooden bridge to burano.
nigel and anita gave you info on transportation there.

best things to do in burano: a perfect day trip from venice.
a blog written about a young couple fullfulling their travel dreams and writing about them.

walking around the island, loved the shops, patisseries (bakeries) bringing home their known cookie/bisquit, bought a homemade lace brooch (not cheap) but happy with it. be careful with times/days restaurants are open. some close early afternoon 2pm or so or not open everyday. eat fresh seafood dishes from the lagoon, risotto burano style
look at the prices for vaporetto passes, (europeforvisitors.com/venice vaporetto fares)
buy at ACTV offices, newstands/tobacco shops before getting to ferry, plus activate before boarding.
enjoy your time on burano and venice. just some of my own info & thoughts of my few trips there, hope it helps

Here is my favorite site for all the Vaporetti lines even if it is not the official one. You can click on each line number and it will show you a map of where it goes.
Here it is with 12 selected: https://www.visit-venice-italy.com/water-bus-venice-line-12.html
Here is the 12 map blown up: https://www.visit-venice-italy.com/water-bus-venice-line-12.html

You can take any number of vaporetto lines to get to F. Nove (4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2) but unless you're really far away I would suggest walking across the island. It's usually faster than taking a boat around it and just walking across Venice is one of my favorite things to do there.

Also Venice is rolling out automated ticket stands to the various stations but I would recommend having your ticket or pass before heading to the north side of the island because services are sparser up there and likely to be crowded by confused people trying to get to Murano.

One tip - if your vaporetto stops at Mazzorbo you can go ahead and get off there. It is the stop before Burano and you can walk the island and then a bridge and arrive at Burano not at the same time everyone else gets off. Better secret tip - if you walk along the wall from from the Mazzorbo stop and turn into the first opening on the right (the left is water) you can walk through the organic gardens and vines of the vineyard on your way to Burano.

Also you don't mention it but if you're going to Burano for the lace after the museum don't miss Dalla Lidia Merletti D'Arte just around the corner. They are light blue with a red sign and they have a huge collection of historic lace which my wife enjoyed as much as the museum. And if you don't enjoy lace as much as your spouse there is Bar Laguna just opposite about 3 doors down I also recommend.

Venice is amazing, enjoy,

Thank you Todd for some more interesting insight. I read you could take line 3 from station direct to Murano to save time. Is this correct. Thanks.

You can take the 3 from the Train Station area to Murano but to get to Burano you would then need to meet the 12 at the Faro stop to catch the Murano to Burano section.

The 7 will take you to Murano from S.Zaccaria D (next to San Marco) but again this is only to Murano and not Burano.

Burano is much less served than Murano since it is smaller and further out from the main island hence the limitations.

Hope that helps, you can click through the various routes and schedules and find the one that works best for what you're trying to do.

We found this interactive transportation map for Venice very helpful:

If you have time, consider also going to Torcello --- it was one of my family's favorite things to do while in Venice for 10 days in December. Walk along a lovely countryside canal, stand on one of the only two bridges left in Venice without railings, climb the old tower for the view, and visit the church for the mosaics. We went to both islands early in the morning and were glad we did --- we had the whole experience in Torcello all to ourselves until we were headed back to the vaporetto to Burano..
