building an itinerary around conference in Barga

I will be accompanying my husband on a business trip to Italy in May and need some help planning an itinerary around his meeting. We would need to fly out of either Atlanta or New Orleans, of course prefer non-stop flights. We want to see Venice, Florence, Cinque Terra and possibly Lake Como. We could either have the meeting in the middle of the trip, or on either end, our dates are flexible except for having to be in Barga May 20-25 (Sunday-check out Friday). I am just working on the itinerary for now, and the logistics of getting from place to place, how many nights each, etc. We have been to Italy before (only Rome & Orvietta) and we are comfortable with the trains and with renting a car for a portion of the trip. Would like to do this in 2 weeks (including the 5 nights in Barga for his meeting, but somewhat flexible on # of days). I know some sights are closed certain days of the week, so we want to take that into account in our planning. Can't wait to hear all your suggestions! Thanks!

If possible I would have the business meeting at the beginning of the trip so your husband can relax and not have to do any preparation before the meeting. But it depends on the type of meeting, perhaps more of his time will required after the meeting as things may be set in motion.

Good thought SamSN. The conference should be pretty low key for him. I was actually thinking of having the conference in the middle of the trip simply because we could do a big circle, starting in either Florence or Venice. The problem I'm finding is that there doesn't appear to be any nonstop flights on Delta (SilverElitte) to either Florence or Venice.

I think Delta only has non-stop service to Rome and Milan.

Can I ask what is happening in Barga in May? We love it in that area. You will definitely want the freedom of a car I think. Keep up on the news of the Cinque Terre - they just had some devastating floods and things may not been 100% ready by the time of your trip - I think Vernazza was very hard hit but I am sure there plenty more about that on this forum.
