Buffalo Mozzarella Tour?

We'll be in both Sorrento (2 nights) and Salerno (2 nights) in late November, with our two boys, ages 8 & 10 (and Rome prior to that).

Older son LOVES mozzarella and I'd read some things about a mozzarella factory / tour somewhere in the AC or Paestum area?

Wondering if anyone else has done a factory / farm tour and was it worth it? (And possibly good for kids.)

The tricky thing is that we are traveling via public transport, as we aren't renting a car. Advice? Experience?

Thanks!

BLL,

This is probably the place you're referring to. I've taken the tour and felt it was definitely worth it. I believe the tour has to be pre-booked, but that information should be on their website.

I haven't checked in any detail, but it will probably be a bit challenging to get to the farm without a car. The only option that comes to mind would be a train from Salerno to Paestum (about 32 minutes) and then take a Taxi to the farm. Allow several hours there, but pre-arrange a pickup time for the trip back to the station.

They may be operating on reduced hours in late November, so be sure to check that also.

I agree with Ken's recommendation. This was a highlight of our RS South Italy tour! Of course, everything was arranged for us, including a delicious lunch and tour of the place. We really enjoyed it!

Check www.infopaestum.it, it is the tourist office for Paestum. There are a couple of places in the town itself, not sure about tours. There are also tours that will pick you up from Sorrento (googled "Mozzarella farms Paestum").
