We are staying here in June. Great location and price. We are paying $175 a night.
Jim, explore your options on booking.com. It will allow you to search by your dates (rates can fluctuate a lot depending on season), your budget, desired amenities, number of guests in the room, and location. I've used this site a lot for both hotels abroad and here in the US. As reviews on the site can only be posted by guests who've actually strayed at a property, I tend to trust them, although it helps to browse a number of them.

Jim, on our trip this past September//October, my husband spent one night at the UNAhotels Deco hotel, one-and-a-half convenient blocks from the Termini train/Metro station, before meeting me in Tuscany the next day. The location is outstanding, and although it’s actually fancier than “nothing fancy,” the prices are surprisingly low - way less than €150 a night, unless you opt for a suite or superior room. Here’s their Website: https://www.gruppouna.it/en/unahotels/unahotels-deco-roma
Now, you’re asking about a hotel, but we’ve also stayed twice at an apartment in the Testaccio neighborhood, less touristy than if it were a mile farther north, but easily accessible on foot, by bus, metro, or by €6 to €12 taxi, and a very worthwhile stay. With a full kitchen (including dishwasher), a clothes washer, and access to some of the best (yet affordable) restaurants in all of Rome, it was a steal at less than €100 a night. We found it on VRBO.com.
If you’d like to stay in Trastevere I recommend this hotel. Great location in Trastevere and rooftop bar with million dollar view to die for.
