Budget Lodging Rome

A young person I know will be making their first trip to Rome and is looking for a place to stay that fits a university-student budget. Ideally it would be fairly central and have air conditioning. And not too early a curfew. Convents are fine. If you have any suggestions (based on experience), please let me know!!

There's a wide range of places near Termini station. In my experience, convents aren't that much cheaper than B&Bs/hotels. Check a website like booking.com or venere.com for descriptions, maps, photos of places in your friend's price range (you can sort by low to high prices). Hostels might be a good bet, there are lots listed on booking.com.

We are staying at The Beehive near the Termini. We don't have personal experience there yet but it is recommended in Rick's books. I believe a spot in the dorm rooms is 30 Euro a night. They also have private rooms.

Bryan, I'm just surprised that when your tagline reads: "Bryan
Rome, Lazio Italy" you are asking for advice for a person making a first trip to Rome??? In your day to day life would you run across answers?

My residence is provided for me now and so I have not had to worry about finding a good place to stay. While walking around the city each day one is confronted with thousands of options; I thought it would be better to hear from people who have actually stayed in one place or another for recommendations, than spend time (that I don't have) visiting all these places and trying to get an idea myself.
