Budget lodging in Milano

Any recommendations for a budget place in Milano? Nine years ago we used the Spernoni but can't find it any more.

Hi Nanci I stayed in Milan as a student and i used to stay a little outside the city centre. I stayed in an apartment but used to host my parents in a nearby university style dorm hotel. The name is Zumbini Rooms. This is the website to check www.zumbinirooms.com. They low cost rooms in a quiet area (far from the dangerous area close to the train station), well connected (subway from Romolo takes about 15 minutes to the Duomo) and ideal for a walk to the Navigli, that you surely know.

We booked three nights at the end of June at the Regency at Via Giuseppe Arimondi, 12 for $75 a night w/o breakfast; I used Kayak.com to find it. Their rates seem to fluctuate depending on what convention is in town, so your experience may be different. I also booked a night there when we arrive in the beginning of the month and it was $109 including breakfast. I had not option on the breakfast. All rooms were for two people. I chose them because we can leave bags there while we run around Tuscany. We usually pack two smaller traveling suitcases inside larger ones and fill the larger ones up with things we buy, like Parmesan cheese, shoes, etc. The hotel told me we would not be charged for storing bags.

I'm on my soapbox for venere.com. you can search by area in a city, say you want to be close to the city center, or the airport. you can search by price and compare values. I've found some rocking deals on venere.com!
