Budget hotel in Venice, suggestions needed

I'm looking for a budget hotel or b & b in Venice. I'd prefer under 70 euro, but I realize Venice is pricey and I'll be there in May, so I may run a bit over budget.

Please let me know your suggestions for a simple but clean place, ensuite, in a great location.

I found a good looking place called Hotel Ai Do Mori, but alas it's fully booked.

Seeing as how this is already the middle of April....

Unless your trip is for 2010, you may have to compromise on ensuite or location to hit your target budget.

Is a good place to look for hotel accomodation in Venice.

Remember that Venice is a relatively small city, so staying away from the center and pricier rooms is not that bad. In additionthe farther you get away from Piazza San Marco the more affordable things become. And many would say more enjoyable.

I can recommend the Hotel Santa Lucia. You're very likely to need a place with shared bathrooms.

Thank you all for the responses. I have emailed the hotels, so wish me luck.

Yes, I realize this is very last minute--I just bought tickets late Tuesday when a remarkable fare ($476 round trip from Chicago, late May!) came my way and I couldn't resist.

All the places recommended look great, but are already full. I just booked with LOCANDA SILVA, which at 85 euro, is the cheapest I could find under the circumstances. Thanks again to all who responded.

You may want to look at Locanda Montin. It is in the Dorsoduro/San Trovaso area. Have not personally stayed there but have dined at their restuarant and it is very good. In some guide books the pension is described as having slightly funky rooms and bathrooms are not all ensuite. I would consider staying there as the location is good (Zattere vaporetto stop would be near) and it is a quiet and very charming part of Venice. Have you checked laterooms.com?

Hi Susan, thanks for telling me about Locanda Montin. It looks gorgeous and the off season rates are great, but the high season prices are getting out of my budget range.

I just looked at laterooms, thanks for the tip. All the one stars are full...guess I'll just have to go back a second time in the winter. Hah!
