Does anyone have any recommendations for a budget hotel in Venice? Looking for something small, clean and economical but not hostel style. Thanks! p.s. already inquired Pensione Guerrato, all sold out!!!
You might try Hotel San Giorgio. About a ten minute walk to San Marco and also the Rialto Bridge. You can check them on booking.com and also tripadvisor.com. We stayed there in 2011. The room was small, the bathroom small, but the breakfast was very good, the staff very helpful, and the location was great.
If you're looking for a single or a double with shared bath priced similarly to Guerrato, try Locanda Silva. Dark hallways, but decent rooms and a great location. If Hotel Riva has reopened, it would be a good option. I found it nicer than it's one star rating would suggest and location is excellent. If Accademia area is OK, try Ca' San Trovaso. Very nice for the price in a quiet neighborhood about a 15 minute walk from St. Marks.
I found the hotels around the train station to be the least expensive. We were there earlier this year on a day trip, but it's been a number of years since we stayed inside Venice. See Booking.com
Hotel Doni is right behind Basilica of San Marco and the Ducal Palace, on a quiet side canal. Very simple. Quiet. English is spoken and folks working there were nice. I paid 80E for a single ensuite room last September-October (very nice, new bathroom), and a VERY simple breakfast was included. There were other rooms with shared bathrooms, which would be even less expensive. I really like it. I'll go back.
The Hotel Santa Lucia is near the train station but in a quiet neighborhood with bright large rooms.
