Budget hotel in Old city Rome

Traveling there, Oct 10-15, 2011. Any suggestions for clean, budget convenient hotel??? Anyone staid at Due Torre? Or Emmaus Hotel?
What is best location to stay to see as much as possible in 4 days? Where to get Vatican tickets?

Dave, I'd suggest checking your local Library or larger Book stores to see if you can find a copy of Rick's Italy 2011 Guidebook. It contains a WEALTH of information not only on Hotels in various parts of Rome and in different price ranges, but also good touring and sightseeing information, including "Vatican tickets". Note that the Guidebooks are now downloadable for very reasonable cost as E-books if you have a compatible Reader. You could also download the free Kindle Reader for your PC or MAC and use that as the Reader. Your best source of information on the two Hotels you mentioned would be Trip Advisor. Cheers!

You can use venere.com for hotels but being in the city center and finding a budget hotel may not go together. I would suggest looking in the termini or vatican areas for the best prices. You'll still be close to the sites and restaurants. You can book vatican entry tickets or a tour directly through them at: http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do Donna

What is your budget? Are you open to B&Bs? I stayed at the Al Centro di Roma B&B in May and it was only 90 euros a night, PERFECT location near the pantheon, clean, comfy, friendly, has an elevator, etc. Only 3 rooms so it may not be your cup of tea. On a previous trip to Rome I stayed near the Colosseum and did not like it as much.

We stayed at the RS-recommended Hotel Italia. Terrific location. They speak English, so book by phone rather than online to request a room in the main building rather than the annex across the street.
