I haven't gotten any replies to this question on "Transportation," so I'm trying here. Has anyone had experience with Budget Car rentals in Italy? Or, can you direct me to any site where people rate rental car companies?

I usually book through Auto Europe (a US agent who works with many European suppliers) and they have more often placed me with Europcar or Avis. Maybe once it was Budget, but I don't recall. I don't think Budget's reputation is much different from any other major company. They all get complaints. TripAdvisor.com would be a more complete site for user reviews.

I can't find the prior posting/response that dealt with car rental companies but I printed the article - it can be found at www.apathtolunch.com and then search for rental car reviews. It lists and comments on most of them. FYI - it says that Budget is a "small risk". I'm planning on using Hertz next fall - their rates seem competitive if not the lowest.

Budget and Avis are part of the same company. In Italy it's called "Avis Budget Italia S.p.A." However they still keep both brands.
Last time I rented from Budget in Florence, it was inside the Avis office.
