Budget Accommodations in Venice

I am looking for a double room in Venice for less than $100 Euros per night. I am travelling around Christmas in Dec. It is fine if there is a shared bathroom. I would prefer breakfast to be included, but also depends on location. I would rather not be close to the train station, as Rick Steves seems to suggest it would be better to be more in town. Hotel Santa Lucia is somewhere I will get in touch with if I cannot find something else. I have already contacted Locanda da Silva, Albergo Doni, and Pensione Guerrato. They are either full or closed. I would appreciate other recommendations, thanks so much! P.S. - I know Venice is not really a "budget" place, but I am looking for something comparatively inexpensive. :)

Hotel Santa Lucia is by far the best the remaining cheapo hotels I've stayed. It's clean and the rooms are large. They charge for breakfast but there's a great bar on the street for coffee and pastries and a Brek around the corner if you want something inexpensive and substantial.

We stayed here http://www.vrbo.com/155941 last December for 6 nights. The rate was under 100 euros per night. Absolutely great location and property! No breakfast, but hey, you have a whole apartment, laundry machine, bars and markets close by!

Here are some other sites to look ataaaaaa; freereservation.com cross-pollinate.com homeaway.com Do your research. what floor are you on and is there an elevator? You do not want to be climbing stairs with luggage. Stay on the island, not the lido or maestre. They are off the island and you will pay for transportation to get to venice.
We stayed in the san polo district, private apartment with elevator, and it was great. walked everywhere on island and took boat to burano island, then to lido. had a great time. enjoy

All - thank you for your reply. Laurel - I just e-mailed the owner of the vacation rental. I hope it is available! Thank you.

If the place you mentioned does not work out, the RS 2012 Venice Guide Book has lots of places that we used to book a place for September and lots of price ranges.

Laurel - that place was already booked too. I am starting to think they just don't want someone who is only booking one night. Right now, I am using the Venice 2010 book (got it at the library). I ordered an Italy 2012 book that should be arriving any day. I really want somewhere that is recommended by RS, people here, or another reputable guidebook. I also e-mailed the one that ends in alla Scala, so maybe they have openings. Thanks everyone -- let me know if you know of anything else!

You're only going to be there for one night? That's such a shame. Venice really deserves more. And you won't find any apartment that will rent for only one night. Have you tried the hostels? Good luck.

Well, we are spending 5 nights in Rome and 3 in Florence. At first we weren't even going to go there, but I at least wanted to see it.

If you have no luck at a budget price ck the adjacent town Mestre. There are some walking distance to Venice car park.

Thanks everyone for your help. I was just able to reserve a room at Alloggi alla Scala for 95 euros a night. Whew!
