We are visiting Florence in early July. Of course I want to see and learn about Brunelleschi's dome, but not sure if I want the climb to the top! What are some "must dos" in Florence...and can we just purchase tickets to enter the cathedral and appreciate the splendor?
You can purchase this if you don’t want to climb the Dome or the Tower:
Ghiberti Pass
This is the combo ticket that allows for access to the Cathedral, Baptistery, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and the ancient basilica of Santa Reparata.
The Pass is valid for 3 days, starting from the date chosen at the time of booking, with no time constraints.
15 € - reduced 5 €
The dome is a masterpiece and you can enjoy it without climbing the Dome. Last May we took an excellent tour of the Cathedral and the guide provided a lot of insight into the history of the Cathedral and the Dome itself. You can find the tickets for the tour along with any of the passes on the Duomo website. I would also recommend that you read Brunelleschi’s Dome by Ross King prior to visiting. I wish I had read this before I climbed the Dome the first time in 2018. I would have known what to look for on the climb. It is a very easy and fascinating read.
Also don't miss the excellent Duomo museum directly behind the Duomo for more insight into the construction of the cathedral and Duomo. Tip - just keep going up in museum until you get to the top. It will be worth it.
Brunelleschi's tomb is glimpse-able if you do the Santa Reparata tour under the Duomo.
Have a great time in Florence,

I agree that you must read Ross King's book-maybe on the flight over?
Wow! Thank you all so much for the valuable tips!!
I've got to add agreement on the Duomo Museum; it's severely underrated, and has a great section on the construction of the dome (with models!). We enjoyed it immensely.
In place of the dome climb, look for the terrace in the Duomo Museum to get a great view of the dome directly.
