Broken adapter in Tuscany.....

I'm traveling with my mother (and all sorts of gadgets) in Tuscany and our adapter seems to have shorted out. Is there somewhere in the area I could purchase another? We were hoping they would have one at the place we are staying, unfortunately, they don't. Everything is running out of batteries fast and it's out best way for photos and finding information. Thanks!

Tuscany is a really big place. You don't help us by saying where you are. Any ferramenta (hardware store) should be able to help, a large store like Auchun or Carrefour, or even a medium store like DeSpar or Casino in a tourist town should have one. You could even try Euronics the electronics store.

But in most towns the first stop should be the ferramenta.

Buy 2 they're small.

Unless you have good Italian, take the dead one with you to show them.

By adaptor, assume you just need the socket adaptor. The electronic gadgets should work fine with the local 220 volt 50 Hz AC power.

I agree Sam. I am concerned about an adapter that "shorted" out. There is nothing in an adapter to short out. Am worried that they may have a converter. That would be much harder to replace. See if there are any other North Americans staying there who would loan you their adapter for a couple of hours.

If it's just a two-prong, European adapter and not a voltage converter, then you might try going to another hotel neaby and asking there. Hotel receptions often have several which have been left by other guests.

dunmirec,

how are you making out? Have you managed to find a device?

I see from your other post this morning that you have a car. Have you considered using the 12 volt power point in the car for charging the phone, tablet, etc.?

Sorry to hear, not to rub salt in the wound, but this is why I always travel with 2 adapters....just in case....and it's nice to have an extra one so I can charge my iphone and ipad over night at the same time. I hope you've been able to find another one! Happier travels!

I agree with Ellen, I always travel with multiple adapters, one for each of the things that may need to be charged. That way I always can take the cord and adapter out at the same time and I never have to worry about leaving one behind.
