My wife and I will be traveling to Italy next month for our honeymoon and want to bring along a small Acer Netbook. They weight right around 2 lbs I think so space isn't an issue, we're traveling light.
My question is about internet hot spots. Will we have trouble finding wireless internet traveling around to some of the slower paced areas? We're going to Lake Como, Cinque Terre, then down the Amalfi Coast, probably Capri and Sicily.
I cannot specifically address each location but generally we have never had any extended problems with finding wireless sites. One of the best is McDonalds. Most hotels have some internet access so the need to carry a laptop is min. We use a ASUS 3E but it is still two pounds plus a charging cord and an adapter. Let it home last January and didn't miss it a bit.
We always bring a laptop to Italy, and the easiest way to gain wireless access is through your hotel, especially late at night before bed or early in the AM...some charge for it, others it's free. You can ask your hotels. It can be available in your room, or in a common sitting area, too.
You can try here, here, and here for wi-fi availabilities. Note that in many European countries, they pronounce it "wee-fee."
