I'll be coming from Patras and need to get to Paestum. Trains from either Bari or Brindisi are at least 6 hrs. It's no more than 100 miles as-the-crow-flies, so that seems kind of long. Might I be better renting a car or taking a bus, or is that time just indicative of the general condition of transportation routes in the area? Time takes precedence over budget for this leg of my trip. Thanks!
The trains lines from Bari run through Naples, which makes the train trip longer. Sita bus company does run Bari-Salerno buses, but they take 4.0-4.5 hours, you're subject to a limited schedule and you'd still need to get from Salerno to Paestum. Car looks like your best bet. BTW - Michelin website says 144 miles and estimates 3.5 hours of driving time.
