My husband and I hiked from San Candido to Aleghi ( eastern Dolomites in the Cortina area ) last summer and thought it was the best hiking ever. Cinque Tor, for example, was truly awesome, even in a light rain. We want to repeat this experience ( is that unrealistic?) only some place different. We're considering the Brenta Dolomites but are open to suggestions, not necessarily in Italy. Ideas, please?
Each mountain has its own vibe, trails and scenery. All that can change with weather (your hike on scorching heat with stagnant air would be miserable).
This being said, the area around San Leonardo in Passiria has some awesome trails.
I would recommend the hiking in Alta Pusteria, northwest of Cortina or Val Gardena. The hiking on the Seiser Alm is superlative.
