We are planning to take the train from Monterosso al Mare where we are staying to Corniglia and hike back to Monterosso on the coastal trail. We hope to beat the worst of the heat by leaving early. Would we be better off having breakfast in Monterosso or Corniglia? We'd prefer not to carry a picnic--just a water bottle and snacks since we'll eat lunch in Vernazza. Also, we don't want to plan extra walking since what we've planned already will challenge us, so breakfast possibilities near a train station or trail head would be best. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
When we stayed in Monterosso al Mare about a hundred years ago, we had breakfast, which for us was a cappuccino and a cornetto, at the little bar in the middle of town. The bar might not exist any more, but it could be what now seems to be called the Bar Centrale Gelateria. Also the nearby Midi Bar looks good.
We had breakfast one morning at the Cafe connected to the train station in Monterosso. There is also a very nice bakery along the strand a short walk from the train station - on the New Town side.
