Breakfast at the Vatican?

Has anyone done breakfast at the Vatican? It looks like you get breakfast in a courtyard followed by early admission. The Vatican itself seems to offer breakfast and early admission, or that plus an audio tour or that plus a tour guide. There are also some private tour companies which have similar offerings for more money.

I am wondering if the breakfast itself is worthwhile? I have found a couple of online reviews and it sounds like it is more substantial than just a continental breakfast. And I am wondering if the early admission is helpful? It sounds like it is just enough to get a bit of quieter time in the Sistine Chapel, but not much more than that in terms of lower crowds? And is there any reason to go with the more expensive tour companies?

Thanks so much for any insight!

Substantial or Continental Breakfast...you're missing the whole point if that's truly a deciding factor.

I'm trying to decide whether it makes sense to pay more money to have breakfast at the Vatican rather than paying for some different form of admission with no breakfast. It seems logical to wonder whether the breakfast itself is worthwhile. Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain exactly how I am missing the whole point?

It's an American breakfast. Only you can decide if breakfast is worth the extra price. None of the tours will get you in substantially early and turn you loose into the museum. You will be able to get into the chapel for 15-20 minutes and then some companies will take you through the museums. By the time you're done with the chapel the regular crowds will be entering so the other galleries will be filling up.

We did the Pristine Sistine tour with Walks of Italy this past May. We met at a coffee shop at 7:15, where you can buy coffee and a breakfast pastry. We then entered the Vatican at 8:00 with other early tours. With Walks of Italy, groups are limited to 14 people, everyone has their own earphones, and the tours are all in English. Our guide gave us lots of background information as we were waiting to enter.
Once inside, she brought us straight away to the back of the museum, where there were no other tourists. We went thru a large part of the museums with no one else around. When it was our turn to enter the Sistine Chapel, still before opening hours, there were plenty of others on early tours, but no where near the numbers we encountered when we passed thru it later on our way to another part. By the time the tour was over, around 11:00 we felt we had seen an amazing amount of the museums and received an incredible amount of knowledge from a well informed, personable expert on the Vatican. It was well worth the money to us, as were the other tours we did with them.

All official tours given by the Vatican museums use the headphones. You can clearly hear the guide and don't need to be right next to them.

If you are traveling in the spring or summer you might consider doing one of the Friday night visits to the museums. It is much less crowded than during the day time and doesn't cost half as much as one of the early morning tours.

Thank you! We will not be in Rome on a Friday.
