bottles of olive oil

Does anyone know what the limit might be for bringing olive oil in checked luggage from Italy?

I think it is limited by the weight limit of luggage your airline allows. Be aware that olive oil bottles can be thin and delicate and I have the dry-cleaning bills to prove it.

Thank you for the reply. This would be home made olive oil from my cousin. I read somewhere that corks tend to pop outbecause of pressure in the cargo hold, not so sure about that.

I brought home a can of olive oil once. It made the journey just fine. I've also brought back wine that survived the trip as well. FYI - if you know you're going to bring this back with you, bring back a way to double bag it. It'll save you a lot of hassle if the worst should happen to those bottles. I use a special bag with a seal to bring back three bottles of wine (or any other bottle that fits) when I visit Europe. And even then, I stick that inside another bag in case it breaks or leaks.

The cork also may pop out from the baggage handlers throwing the bag and then throwing other bags on top of yours.
And then throwing the bag again on the belt at your final destination.

Put all your clothes in plastic bag(s), so they are protected in case the worst happens.

I've brought back countless bottles of wine with corks with no problems. I always place them in a sealed plastic bag and then wrap them in clothing to protect them from being thrown around by luggage handlers.

A cork without a seal over it is something I would not risk. If the cork can be sealed, like a wine bottle's cork, I would double-bag it and cross my fingers.

On recent trip, I brought back three bottles of wine, including a spumante.
I found these to be very reassuring:

I am sure they will work for vinegar and oil as well as wine, and give you the measure of confidence they gave me.

I've traveled with plenty of olive oil, but I've never traveled with a corked bottle of it. I would not trust that for baggage travel. I've never known an olive grove that did not offer tins with screw tops. Even with screw top tins, I duct tape the screw top. Then I place the container in a ziplock freezer bag. I never travel without ziplock freezer bags.
