Borghese Tickets - How early is too early? Also, Rome Airport

Hello Fellow Travelers,
My husband and I will be in Rome September 27 and want to get 11AM tickets to the Borghese Gallery.
I tried to do this online a few weeks back. The site showed openings for that date and time, took all my credit card information, and then said they were not available (or something like that). Does anyone have recent experience in booking these tickets? I hate to wait until September as I fear the time slot I want will fill; but maybe that is my only choice.

Also, we have a connecting flight through Rome on September 12 and allowed 1 3/4 hour for the transfer. At the time I made the reservation, I was unaware of the horrific fire in Terminal 3. Is progress being made to get people through the airport in a timely manner or will it still be chaotic for a long time?

Third question: Has anyone recently stayed at the Hotel Nardizzi Americana in Rome? Nine years ago we stayed there on a RS tour, but I was interested in other travelers' comments who had stayed there more recently. We thought the location was good then and could be good again as it appears close to the Borghese Gallery.

Thanks much for any input you can provide!

I got reservations at the Borghese about a month ago for Oct. 3rd. No problem. I would try again maybe for a different time of day. Good luck.

Elle glad you got your tickets too. When you get there allow time to enter (if facing front) on the left side downstairs to get your actual tickets with your voucher. It is quite beautiful , one of our favorite sites in Rome. They control the crowd , the reason for having tickets ahead of time. Also , there is a beautiful restaurant Casina Valadie, to stop by to see. I think its quite expensive, but just walked around and take pictures as the views are terrific. Good walking shoes to have on the park area is large.

Thank you, Sandy, for your good tips. While we have seen most of the major sites in Rome, we have not been to the Borghese Gallery and are really happy to have secured tickets for 11AM on the 27th. From your experience, should we arrive at the Gallery at 10? Perhaps, I should get the tickets and my husband should get in line to sign-up for the tour in English as I think there is one at 11 on Sunday. Did you take the tour? Afterwards, we'd like to have lunch somewhere and stroll in the park. Will this pretty much fill our afternoon? The restaurant sounds magnificent. Love places like that and you are so right: Great to view but may want to pass on the $$$$ menu! Thanks again, Elle

After you stroll the park, head toward the Pincio (excellent signage), look at Roma from the terrace, then take the footpath down to Piazza del Popolo.

Elle, I would get there at least 45 minutes early to get your tickets, check your bags and sign up for the tour. An hour early would be fine, you should find no lines at any of the windows. Once checked in, with bags in the checked bag storage area and signed up for the tour you can relax in the coffee shop or take a look at their bookstore. You might also stroll the area of the park around the gallery if you have enough time.

As to FCO, they are managing after the T3 fire very well, although a fire in the trees off a runway a few days ago played havoc with flights. We passed through T3 in early June and other than a stink from fire damage it worked well. You can't account for the type of emergency that happened last week, but I would say 1-3/4 hours is ample time for most situations. Depending on where you are coming from and going to, you might have to change terminals.
