Hello, My wife and I are trying to plan our trip to Rome this summer and we are having a difficult time booking our visit to the Borghese Museum. How far out can I book? I have been on the booking website periodically over the last few weeks and there have been no new opening/available tickets. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi:
The Villa Borghese requires a timed entry ticket to control the number of people going through. I have been two times in my life, once with my husband and again with a small group of IB high school students. Both times, I was blown away by the exquisite beauty of the art--those Bernini sculptures!-- Caravaggio paintings, and the villa itself. It is worth the trouble to get in, and once you are there you can take your time and truly enjoy the space.
I believe this is the website I used to get my tickets:

It looks like they have tickets available through the end of June. I expect the July tickets will become available soon.
If you are using the Roma pass, you can organize the tickets either by phone or after you get into town. The Borghese Gardens are also lovely, so you could plan a picnic lunch around your visit to the villa. I also went to the Villa Giulia that day to see the Etruscan collection. It is on the other corner of the gardens. This was one of my favorite days in bella Roma...
I looked at what I believe is the official website and see that tickets are available through the end of June. It looks like they don't offer tickets more than 2 months in advance. Just be patient and check back once a week or so. I wouldn't expect tickets to sell out more than a couple weeks ahead.
I made a mistake of waiting till one week before my planned visit this 13th May to get the tickets, and they were sold out. I had to resort to buying just the entrance tickets at double the price from a tour company for the same day and timing. I'm guessing these companies book up in bulk. Anyway, it was my fault and a lesson to be learnt. Try booking 2 or 3 weeks in advance.
The Borghese gallery releases tickets about 2 months in advance. These tickets do tend to sell out in the summer so keep checking the site and book as soon as you can. Use the official booking site for the best prices and time slots.

Be sure to notify your credit card company of the purchase and to have the 3d layer of security protocol enacted for your card.

If you have a Roma Pass you will be able to reserve a slot even when the website shows that there are no openings. You must call them if you use the Roma Pass. Be sure that your pass has not expired by the time you arrive...or you'll pay the full price.
If you use the public transportation and take advantage of the museum access, the Roma Pass more than pays for itself...even if only for the queue line avoidance benefit.
You don't need the romapass to skip the lines at the busy sites, simply buy tickets online in advance. A romapass in no way allows you to bypass the line at the Borghese gallery, you must wait in line to get your ticket and then get in the line to get inside when your time starts.
Unless you visit 3 or more sites covered by the pass and ride public transportation at least 4 times the 72 hour romapass won't save you any money. Do the math before considering this option. It may be a good option for you or it may not be, it all depends on what you plan to see and do.
