Borghese Gallery tickets if no Roma Pass

I read on the helpline that the Roma Pass has not been available recently. My question: I want to make a reservation for the Borghese Gallery for 27.11.11 and hope I will have the Roma Pass. I don't want to purchase tickets now while make the reservation in case the Roma Pass is available. If I don't have the Roma Pass, will I be able to purchase tickets at the TI or the gallery prior to my scheduled tour time? Just want to cover all bases. Thanks....again.

I would make the reservation as soon as you can and let them know you will use the romapass if it's available. If it's not available then you'll just have to pay the entry fee when you get there. If you don't book ahead of time you run the risk of not getting in. Donna

Joanne, I made online reservations through Select Italy. They will send you a confirmation email, and you can just show that at your reservation time. It's a little more expensive, but I thought it was worth it. You wouldn't be able to switch this out for the Romapass, however. Another thing about the Gallery: you'll need to check anything larger than a small purse, but you can put anything you want to keep with you in a clear plastic bag souvenir bag. Not as bad as it sounds.

Your hotel can make a reservation for you. Then use the Roma Pass to buy the ticket on arrival at the museum.

Last November I was able to just walk-up to get into the Borghese Gallery. I had a Roma Pass. Off-season the crowds are much thinner. I think I was there early in the afternoon. The gardens and gallery are a pleasant way to spend half a day. In crowded Rome, it is a relief to visit a large, tree-filled park. I visited Rome several times before finally getting to the Borghese. I think it should have been on my agenda for my first visit!

Have your hotel make the reservation for you or call Ticketeria yourself: 011 39 06328101 - there is an option for English. You do not need to pay for the tickets to reserve by phone. Collect the tickets on the day of your entry and either pay for the tickets or present the RomaPass. SelectItaly charges $25 per person for the Borghese Gallery - your time & money would be better spent making the call yourself if your hotel will not reserve for you.

Thank you all for great advise. Fortunately, we were able to visit the gallery 3 years ago when in Rome. We want to return with our daughter this time. I think I will make the reservations online with the Borghese website and if we do not have a Roma Pass, purchase the entrance tickets at the time of our reservation. We will be staying in an apt this time for a week so will not have the assistance of the hotel people to help out. Should be an interesting experience!!! Another thought...if we are unable to purchase the Roma Pass, do we have to purchase tickets to Forum and Collosium at the entrance or can they be purchased at the TI centers? Currently we are in Baden Baden Germany and this is a great small town with wonderful mineral baths...were here 2 weeks ago and came back for the day-night. If you want a relaxing experience, give it a try. Again, thanks to all of you.

We couldn't get a Roma Pass on recent fall trip, so purchased combo tickets right at the Colliseum. We got there in early a.m. when it opened, and the line only took about 5 minutes. We loved the whole area, incl Palatine/Forum. I had read some books (incl First Man in Rome) years ago, and wished I had read up more via guidebooks or web before being in Forum and Palatine. RS book on Italy doesn't have a lot on Palatine; maybe his Rome book does. Based on recommendations found in this blog, we watched multiple shows fr HBO series "Rome" and that was a great prep too. We spent about 3.5 hrs total in that area. Went back our last night in Rome to see Colliseum lit at night. Unfortunately, we were outside in regular street area, and the scarf vendors almost drove us crazy. You may have to get over "Minnesota Nice" when you deal with these folks. Seems we were protected from their approach when within ticketed areas earlier.
Have a great time! Borghese knocked us out, too.

You won't be able to purchase colosseum tickets at the TI's. You can purchase them at the forum, palatine hill or colosseum entrances. If you are unable to get the romapass just go to one of these sites to get your entry tickets for the colosseum combo. You'll have to call the Borghese gallery to make your reservation if you plan on using the romapass. I realize you don't have one right now and it's in question as to if they are available but if you book online you must pay for them at that time. They won't give a refund if you get the romapass. Just book by phone and if you can't get the pass just pay when you get to the gallery. This way you'll have a reservation and not have to worry about getting one when you get to Rome. Donna
