Has anybody experienced trouble getting into the Borghese Gallery website to purchase tickets? The official website will not even open for me....

Use the one Dario kindly provided. That's the official ticketing page.
But you are correct; the MAIN page of the website isn't opening for me either. Guessing it's a temporary bug.

We are planning to visit in September of this year. How far out does the Gallery allow advance purchases? The link provided by Dario only extends to the end of July and I was wondering if there is another link for future dates.

There are re-sellers who will take your money now and get a ticket for you on the above site as soon as possible. If they won't be successful, they will send you a "We are very sorry, but..." email.

I wouldn't use anything but the official ticketing site Dario linked, even if it's currently only showing availability through July. Just keep an eye on the site; Sept. will come up eventually.
