Borghese Gallery Rome

I have reservations for the Borghese and have read that you have to check all bags, purses, cameras etc. Really you cannot even take a small purse?

You may be able to get in with a very small bag but I wouldn't plan for it. They ask that you check ALL bags, cameras, umbrellas....

There are very fragile works of art inside and they don't want to take any chances of a small bump damaging these priceless pieces.

Just check the bag and enjoy your stay. It will be perfectly fine. It is free but make sure you get there about 45 minutes before your time slot to avoid most of the line that forms.

What you can not check is coats, so if you have small items you don't want to check (passport, cash?) wear a shirt, sweater or something with pockets and transfer those items into the pockests prior to checking your purse.

I went through the Borghese with my Rick Steves' Civita backpack on. My friend, who was touring with me, was stopped at the entrance and told to check her small purse. Go figure! It does take some time to check the bag/purse (lines are long) and you only get 2 hours to tour the museum once your entry time is reached.

We enjoyed the Borghese the most of all the museums we saw in France and Italy.

They probably didn't notice the backpack. I wouldn't risk it and waste time going back to check a bag.
