Borghese Gallery Reservations and the Roma Card

I've read many answers about getting reservations at the Borghese Gallery when using the Roma Card. I understand that I have to call ahead and that it's quite easy- even if I call from abroad.
However, I still have some questions to those of you who have already done it.
First, can it be done before you get to Rome and before you buy the Roma Card? (Meaning, do you have to give proof that you've already bought it when you make the reservations?) We want to buy the card when we get there, not online.
Second, what are the chances of us getting reservations if we wait until we get to Rome? We are going to be in Rome the week of June 20th and I wonder if there will problems getting reservations if we call the day we get there.
Thanks to all the experienced travellers who can help me!

Taltul,
You can call from abroad and then buy the Roma Pass once you arrive in Rome. You do not have to give proof that you have already bought it, most of us buy it once we have arrived. I don't know what the chances are of getting a reservation if you wait and call when you're in Rome, but we have been there in late October and it's still full.

I don't see a downside to calling ahead for a reservation. Besides, you may have more choice of what day & time you want if you call ahead.
Have a Great Trip!

You also have the option of asking your hotel (if staying in a hotel) to book the reservation for you. Our hotel was happy to do so, and emailed us the confirmation number. We took the email & our Roma Pass to the Borghese and had no problem...other than a power outage!

I called and made a reservation on May 3 for June 2nd and was given a reservation # for 4 people. You do not have to pay ahead so make the reservation then when you get to Rome get the Roma Card which you show when you pick up and pay for your tickets...

Reserve now. And be sure to get to the Borghese at least 30 minutes before your reservation time, to pick up the tickets and check your bags (mandatory, including all cameras).

You didn't ask, but you can also reserve tickets online for the Vatican museum (prepay) - it costs a couple euros extra, but saves waiting in line. Just be sure to print out the reservation and take it with you. Of course, sometimes there is no line.
