Borghese Gallery or Capitoline museums?

Hi!
We have a very limited time in Rome, we would like to see these museums but we already have plans for Saturday and they are closed on Mondays so we will tour ONE of them on Sunday morning. Would you mind suggesting which one we must not miss?
Many thanks!

No one can answer this for you. Both museums are very different in what they have to offer so you need to read up on them and see which one appeals to you. They are both worth a visit.

Donna is right, the Capotiline has more Roman sculpture and a variety of pieces from different eras, the Borghese has the Bernini sculptures, and is mostly filled with art from the Baroque period. The Borghese limits you to two hours inside, but is in a beautiful park.

Thanks! I made the reservation at the Gallery as it is required and will try my best to see the Capitoline museums too.

Biased opinion: When you go to the Borghese, see the sculptures and skip the paintings upstairs. The sculptures are unforgettable. The paintings, not so much. That'll also let you zip across town and try to hit the Capitoline. Both are fantastic. We spent 3 weeks in Rome this past October with our kids (ages 8 and 10) and we all loved both of those.

My best advice for the Borghese - get there an hour before your reservation time. You will need to line up to collect the tickets and again to check all your bags and any electronic item that can take photos - cell phones included. You will also have to line up to enter the galleries, if you want to be in the first 50 or so to go in . . . or you may end up near the end of the line of 200 visitors. The galleries are on 2 floors, go straight to the upper floor, and you will be able to view the collections in relative peace and quiet. You'll be finishing up as most everyone else is arriving, leaving the lower floor fairly empty for you to enjoy.

Great tip! Thank you very much! I was sad that I got the 11:00AM time as I wanted the 9:00AM but knowing how much in advance you need to be there, it's very useful!
