borghese gallery NOT free on 1st Sunday?

Hi,
I am traveling to Italy in May and when I went to book my tickets for The Borghese Gallery I realized I would be there on "Free Sunday" so I attempted to book my time and it was coming up for the normal cost. I just called their number and the agent told me the next "Free Sunday" event is in October. Does anyone know if this is for all the sites during high tourist season, free Sunday is out? My plan was to do some of the lesser popular sites (and Borghese since you need a reservation anyway) during free Sunday, if it isn't available during my stay I may change some touring strategies.
Thanks!

That is correct: free 1st Sundays at the State Museums will now only occur from October - March. The museums have 8 free days to use at their discretion in addition to Culture Week (which just occurred earlier this month). You need to check the websites/other sources for each museum to see when they've scheduled their discretionary days. The Borghese's site states this (google translated from http://www.galleriaborghese.beniculturali.it/it/news/nuove-gratuita-2019):

As part of the free Sundays at the museum, it starts with Sunday 3
March, and then resumes with Sunday 6 October, 3 November and 1
December. The last 3 shifts of every second Wednesday of the month
(shifts of 1.00 pm, 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm) and the days of April 25th,
Anniversary of the Liberation, and May 1st, Workers' Day will also be
free. Please note that access to the Borghese Gallery, even on free
days, requires the obligatory booking in the usual way: by calling +39
06 32810, active from Monday to Friday 9.00am-6.00pm and Saturday
9.00am-1.00pm, or online by clicking BUY.

The Colosseum's discretionary free days will be:
9th of May
5th of June
29th of June
23rd of September
4th of October
4th of November
22th of November
18th of December

I would bypass the most popular attractions on free days but visiting some of less popular ones, as the OP was intending to do, would be OK.
