I am trying to book train trip from Sorrento to Pisa, and from Monterosso to Florence in June. The Trenitalia website says there are no trains.
Obviously I need to connect on different trains but I cannot sort the website out to look at schedules/options to book in advance. Do I wait until I get to Italy and go to the train station or a travel agent, or am I missing something?
The Regionale schedules, which you would likely need to get from Monterosso to Florence are not out yet and it might come down to June 9, or close to that day before they do get released. Regionale prices are fixed and don't take reservations, so you can wait. Look at a date before June 9, same day of the week to get an idea of the schedule. They don't change a whole lot, if at all.
Sorrento to Naples is Circumvesuviana train that also does not take reservations or give advance purchase price break. You might find trains for Naples to Pisa now. Circumvesuviana trains are not shown on the Trenitalia site anyway.
The Sorrento - Napoli line is not served by Trenitalia, but by a separate local company called Circumvesuviana. Trenitalia does not promote the competitors' services on its site.
Re trains going from Napoli Centrale to Pisa Centrale and from Monterosso to Firenze SM Novella (or Firenze Campo di Marte) you can look the schedules up on www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en.
You'll probably have to use a day of travel before June 10 to see the complete schedules from secondary stations like Monte rosso
Tracey, as Sam and Dario said, the Circumvesuviana train you would take from Sorrento is not a Trenitalia train but a regional commuter. You'll want to take it from Sorrento to Napoli Garibaldi/Napoli Centrale and and then Trenitalia trains from there to Pisa. You do not need to buy tickets in advance for this train - it's cheap and fares are fixed - and I don't believe it's possible to do so anyway. Here is the current schedule:

Napoli Garibaldi (Circumvesuviana trains) and Centrale (Trenitalia trains) are connected so you walk between them inside the terminal.
I'm curious how you are getting to Sorrento before moving on to Pisa?
Kathy - by train from Rome to Naples and a boat to Sorrento...looks like I will have to wait to book while I am in Italy, thanks, Tracey
Ah, gotcha! You can pre-book your Trenitalia trains, if you wish to, but just buy your Circ. ticket at the station in Sorrento on the day you are traveling to Naples.
