Booking the Thello night train from Paris to Rome?

Hi there - We are a family of four, our kids are 2 and 5. We would like to take the Thello night train from Paris to Rome. I am having a hard time wading through multiple sites (Thello included) when it comes to trying to book the train and find out how much it would cost for us to get our own sleeper car.

Maybe there is something super obvious that I am missing? We will be in Paris in a few weeks. Would also love any feedback from others who have taken the Thello as to what you thought of it and what it cost you. Also would love tips on the best site to use to book.

Thanks so much for any tips you can provide!

I got it in 5 minutes at www.thello.com. For the Thello section, Paris to Milan, 360 EUR for a 3 person sleeping compartment, and 44.50 EUR per adult and 22.30 EUR for the 5-yo for the Freccia from Milan to Rome. 2-yo travels free. That is for November 15.

Go to the website, enter your date of travel, departure and arrival stations, then 2 adults and 1 child (4-12 yo).
Click on the initial price and that goes to the detail page. Then from the drop-down menu for each passenger, select "cabine-lit 3 Pers whole". That gives a price of 120 EUR for that cabine per person, 360 total. Below that are the prices for the connecting train.

Thanks Sam! Was finally able to figure out why on earth I wasn't getting anywhere - turns out the dates in November I was selecting the route will be closed to railway work. I seriously thought I was going insane for awhile there.

Did this trip last summer and it wasn't a pleasant experience. We are a family of four in a 6 person cabin. We had it all to ourselves but it was tiny. None of us got any sleep. The beds are short, they provide no blankets, sheets or pillows and you must open the window to get any type of air flow. I'm glad we did it to say that we had but will never do it again. I will fly the next time and get a proper hotel for the night.

Have to agree with Donna, while it might not save a whole lot of $$, I'll take a 2 hour flight over a 10 1/2 hour train ride anytime.
For budget flights look at Easyjet and Vueling. Fly Paris Orly to Rome FCO.

Thanks, donna, for sharing your experience. I think many travelers still have a romantic notion of a night train, possibly from movies that are decades old. Your real-life experience is invaluable.

Some of the things I forgot to mention are that the windows are on the inside of the tracks, meaning that the other trains pass on that same side, so when the trains go by you get a really loud blast of noise. There is a small bathroom at the end of the carriage that everyone shares. This makes it difficult in the morning to take care of bathroom needs. I am just under six feet tall and my feet touched the wall at the foot of the bed. My son and husband are well over 6 foot and had to sleep curled up.

Hope this helps others who are contemplating this type of journey. Just so you know what to expect.
