booking reservation for Accademia and Uffizi

I tried booking tickets online on their official website and it was as difficult as I was told. I was prepared to pay for my booking, but could not get to the stage of paying for my bookings. So I called them directly (very easy). They gave me a 6 digit confirmation # and was told to show up at the reservation time and pay there. My question... is that it? Seriously, I don't have to pay a head of time?? Can some one please confirm this and tell me about your experience with making a reservation for Accademia and Uffizi. Thank you

Tom, All you need is the confirmation #. You pay when you get there, or not at all if you miss you reservation for some reason. I'm taking a tour that includes the Uffizi and Accademia, so I don't have to worry about those reservations, but my B&B in Florence reserved a time for me to enter the Medici Chapel and my B&B in Rome reserved a time for me to enter the Borghese Gallery. Nothing was paid ahead, I just have confirmation numbers for the reservations. That's just how its done at many places in Italy.

Thanks Amy! So then why would anyone book a reservation with some online sites that charge you a fee as high as 10 Euros? And I would assume, you'd have to paid a head of time??

I'm not sure. Maybe people that book online do so because they're excited about going but haven't done their homework like you are :) Others, I know say they'd rather pay a set fee online than worry about the phone bill. If you don't have a land-line, for example, and have to call from a cell phone than the cost of the call could be more than the extra charge to book online...
