Booking private water taxi in Venice

Our flight is scheduled to arrive in Marco Polo airport August 4 at 1.40 pm. (Flight from Seattle, with a transfer in Frankfurt)
We'll need to wait for our checked luggage.
Should i book the private taxi for 3pm?
Not sure if 1 hour is enough .

Thanks

Generally it is not necessary to prebook a water taxi as there will be many waiting at the airport dock. You can also book at the airport desk when you get your luggage. If you do want to book in advance, you give your flight number and they will be aware of any delays.

I tbought since we will arrive during high season, i thought booking ahead will reduce the wait time. But may be not?

The only time I prebooked, I was leading a large group (60 people), so prebooked 8 water taxis for the group transfer meeting our flight. Went flawlessly.

I have prebooked a water taxi on each of our trips. We tend to travel during popular months and I just tend to prefer to have reservations. I would plan on an hour, but as noted above, provide your flight information and they will monitor flight. Depending on your pace, it is also a 10-15 minute walk from the exit to the taxi dock. Last time, they just waved us on from the check in desk down to the dock without checking our name or reservation.

One note, last time we arrived in Venice, the immigration area was so overwhelmed that they were only letting Italian citizens proceed. Everyone else had to stand in the hall at the top of the stairs and they let groups of 30-50 in at a time. I believe it took us 45-minutes or so just to make it down the stairs. That has not been consistent with our other visits, but it could happen.

I think that 1 hour may be optimistic. Well away from the mid month Ferragosto madness.

For a mid-day arrival there should be all sorts of options ...

the water taxi you're considering, particularly if you have a large group to spread the cost,

Alilaguna to certain stops, adds up if several of you, slow but you don't benefit from the slowness because the cabin is so far down in the boat the visibility is poor to non-existent

bus to P. Roma and vaporetto or walk, depends on hotel location, but fast, frequent and very cheap (2 companies, know the difference) - and the view from the vaporetto can't be beat whichever line you use

... If you want to use the water taxi you can get it at the desk in the airport and walk the longish moving walkway down to both the Alilaguna boats and the water taxis

... if you want the bus to P.Roma it is immediately outside the arrivals hall door.
