Now that I am NOT using the tour company because they refuse to break anything down on pricing....I need to book 3 hotels now...I leave the 24th of may.!! better by phone or the internet?

Probably easier and quicker using the internet.

Also booking.com. They and venere.com let you restrict your results to places that actually have availability. And the reviews are only by people who booked through them, so less chance of false reviews that you find on tripadvisor.com.

If you are leaving in 10 days I would start calling right away and hope I could still find a vacancy on this short notice. Good luck.

my sister and I did everything by Internet. It was great. did everything ourselves. hotels, places to see, Trains and whatever came our way. this was a fantastic experience. the travel agency drove us crazy too.

You will waste a lot of time and money calling. Besides, you need to get started on this now, today, and it is the middle of the night there. Go to Venere.com or booking.com and enter your dates. It will show what is available on your dates. Read the reviews, check the location, and pick one and book it there, or go to the hotel website if they have a booking form online. don't waste time with email requests

Is 205 e per night for sea view 4 star too much or reasonable? Hotel mediterraneo

That is 250 US which is reason for a 4 star and the location you describe. But it is much more than we would pay. Since we spend so little time in our room, the view is not important to us.

opps, i meant $250 euro. which is 1016.00 for the 4 nights. I looked at so many 3 stars but they were mostly needing updating....and beds reported to be uncomfortable and bathrooms tiny and dirty.... I am a bit of germaphobe! I would prefer newer or updated rooms ....and a view of the sea! I am also someone who likes to wake up and have coffee with my husband on the balcony....relaxing before the big advernture, and then unwinding with a glass of vino afterward... so the room is "sort of" important to the entire package. this hotel stood out over the rest....and I guess I feel its only 4 days...and I don't get to italy but every 7-10 years... so splurging I guess....

I would check tripadvisor.com, look for hotels/BB in the cities you are visiting. Check out the ones with the best ratings, and usually a website listed, or just type in the name in google search. Contact hotel directly and book directly if possible.

Venere and Trip Advisor are good bets. We had 100 e per night rooms at the base of Taromina right on the water.

Try the Hotel Alimandi website! Google hotelalimandi Rome, Italy. They have a 4 star, a 3 star and an apartment all across the street from the Vatican Museum. The 3 star is very reasonable and while not fancy, it's as clean as a whistle! It also has a cute little roof-top cafe. Even if you're not interested in the Vatican, the public transportation is very easy to use from there, and the neigborhood is "local" in back of the hotel, not touristy, and no problems with pickpockets, etc. Restaurants are very good (especially Piacere Molise) and the prices are for locals, not tourists = cheaper! Have a GREAT TRIP!

At the suggestion of my husband who used booking.com to book hotels during a trup to Germany a couple of years ago, I used it to book most of my hotels in Italy for our upcoming trip. It was pretty painless and you don't have to pay your hotel until you check out.

Internet! And I always bring a hard-copy printout of all correspondance and the reservation confirmation with me; it's come in handy before :-(
