Booking hotels in Lake Como

All I am traveling with my son at end of June. After arriving from Milan we will train to Lake Como and would like to book the GHT for the first couple of days to decompress. The GHT doubled in price the last couple weeks to $2 per night?!. I had planned on using points but no longer an option. Is this standard pricing for high season there? When is the best time to book for summer? Thanks for thoughts. I’ll be back with other questions as we plan out the rest of our tour. Just bought the 2020 book. I think Varenna will be too quiet in the evenings for us.

Did you mean "$2k per night" ?

Given what I see on their web site, the price and time of year seems "normal" for that type property.

Those are certainly the prices. And if Varenna seems too quiet for you then I certainly do not think that Tremezzina will be that much more lively after hours. Perhaps Bellagio might fill that lack of quiet in the evenings for you instead. Also, if you plan to "train" to Lake Como, understand that trains only service the eastern shore. For Tremezzina you would need to ferry over from Varenna. Otherwise, plan on leasing a car for access to the western shores.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, in December the price was $1k per night and now it's $2k per night. It was my first time checking prices for this property so I didn't realize that $2k per night was the norm and that up to Christmas the $1k per night for June was abnormally low - maybe a holiday sale that lasted a couple of weeks. I have been looking at the train schedules and thank you for confirming what I had already discovered.
