Booking apartments

We have used cross_pollinate.com. They are an American couple based in Rome and have lodging of rooms or apartments of all kind. We just stayed in a very nice apartment in Barcelona last fall.

Most of those listing companies don't do much vetting, so the quality of the apartment varies quite a bit. We've used vrbo.com and airbnb.com, but do your homework before committing. If there are no reviews listed, I look elsewhere. You can often find listings for the same apartment on different listing sites. Doing a Google search in quotes for an unusual sentence in the description often flushes out those other sites which sometimes have more information. Good luck.

I use vrbo.com and homeaway.com.

I think the other poster gave good advice, and I'll add VRBO as well. I've used them in both U.S. and Europe and have never had an unpleasant experience.
