What has everyone's experience been on how to reserve a room? Most ask for a credit card # to hold the room. I'm leary of sending this to locations overseas freely. Is this safe? Other ideas on making reservations?

I emailed all our hotels or B&B's that I would be calling them and then I gave them my credit card over the telephone. Everyone spoke English well enough to take credit card information. I had them repeat all the dates and credit card information back to me before hanging up.

I sent my credit card numbers over two emails. The first 3 parts of the number in one email, and the last 4 digits and the expiration date in the second.

I'm with Steve - have been emailing credit card info for years and have not had a problem. I often use small hotels/B&B's and email them directly with the credit card info they request.
