I am trying to book tickets online for the Accademia in Florence using the website rick steves recommends but its really confusing. It states tickets are 8 euros, however once I pick April 13th I want to go on, it changes to 16.50 euros. ??? then, once I go to the time I want, 10am, i pick I want 2 tickets, and then it says, "In the selected seating group not enough adjoining seats could be found. Please select another seating group or reserve a smaller number of seats." Seats?? why is it saying seats? is this right? I had to go to the 10:30 time slot before it let me go on without saying this. if I use Accademia.org to book tickets and pick 10am it does not give me any message like this, but it costs more. please help.
Photobynickel,
The price is €16,50pp due to a special exhibit of Carlo Portelli's paintings. This special exhibit started December 21 & will end June 30, 2016.
Don't worry about the, "seats", there are obviously no seats, that's just the way it was translated in the website.
Rick has discussed this as something that annoys him. He says it's common for sights in Italy that everyone wants to see, to have mandatory special exhibitions that are not of interest to first time visitors, that in turn jack up the price of the ticket.
Yes, many ticketing websites call all tickets "seats" - nothing to worry about.
That is kind of annoying that they do that. I went ahead and booked it for 10:30 since that was the closest time to what I wanted that allowed me to get 2 tickets. Thanks again for the help
Actually, I find basic museum fees in Italy to be pretty low. So I don't really mind the mandatory fee for a special exhibition. Sometimes I actually enjoy something I would not have seen otherwise.
