Can anyone make a suggestion for a good booking site? I did find a few, but I'm also wondering about best time of day to go...you can book up til 16:45 on uffizi.com (and I think they close at 18:50). We will be there on a Fri. So I'm wondering (to avoid crowds...haha) should we just book late? (Husband is not an early riser, so not sure if early is possible) Should an hour and a bit be sufficient?
Nicole, there are lots of sites that book tickets for you for a fee. At uffizi.com you should be able to book several of the museums in Florence, including the Accademia. Getting tickets in advance is a good idea depending on when you plan to go (summer lines without reserved tickets are long). There is also a booking office right across the street from the Accademia museum that will charge about 1 or 2 euro over the ticket price and seems to have easy access to entrance times. I found on several visits in the past two years that tour groups tend to show up early in the day, so later in the day is a good option. The Accademia is a small museum (by Florence standards) and an hour-plus should be fine, unless you end up standing in front of a sculpture for a long time (I do). Be sure to go upstairs to the Pinacoteca if you are interested in medieval and Renaissance painting, and have the time.
We will be there on Sept 21...
Probably a good idea to get tickets in advance. If you have time in Florence, the Museum of San Marco is just up the street (Via Ricasoli) from the Accademia. It's a former Dominican convent with wall frescoes by Fra Angelico in each of the friars' cells (rooms). Never seen a line here.
