Booking a pre tour night in Venice

We are on the Venice, Florence, Rome tour starting April 22nd but the hotel the RS group is staying in will not allow us to book one night in advance. They are saying it is a separate booking and requires a minimum 3 nights. Has anyone else run into this? The hotel is the Hotel Pensione Guerrato.

Did you tell them that you will be on the RS tour? That may make a difference.

We've stayed there two or three times for just a couple of nights. It might be that it is the beginning of a busy season, or that might just be a new policy. Agree that you should let them know it is in conjunction with a RS tour group. Let us know what happens.

I agree. Email them with the RS TOUR info requesting to arrive the day before. They have their own website with the contact info and have always been very helpful.

I have emailed them several times and explained we are with a RS tour and they continue to politely say it is policy. I have booked one night elsewhere but will continue to reach out to see if they change the policy.

Have you contacted the RS office? They might be interested in knowing of this issue and decide to use a different hotel in the future. And, they might be willing to contact the hotel on your behalf; the hotel would probably be more anxious to keep on good terms with RS.

I understand it's easier to stay in one hotel in Venice, but in the spirit of making lemonade, perhaps stay away from the Rialto and St. Marks Square areas and experience another side of Venice, away from the crowds. We love the Cannaregio area and always stay there, on the quiet back canals, where one can take sunset pix without anyone in the frame.
We stayed in P. Guerrato with our RS tour a few years ago, and the location is great, right by Rialto, in the busy area. It's a more basic hotel with friendly staff.
Enjoy your trip , and if you can come in two days early, do it, as the airline delays and cancelations are sadly becoming more common. Good luck !

I had emailed the Hotel Pensione Guerrato directly a few months ago for the same tour in August 2024 and let them know my arrival date and that I was part of the Rick Steves tour. It was too soon to book at that time, but I just emailed them this morning and they said they were more than happy to have us stay the night before the tour and gave me all the information I needed to book the room. Email for the hotel is: [email protected]

Good luck!
