Oh..this is so agravating that I can not book flights for a trip in December. Any thoughts? Also..what shall I pack as the weather in Lake Como might be REALLY cold or with snow? Staying in Milan-4 days, Florence-5 days, Venice-4 days. Want to be in Venice for New Years Eve!

As for your Hotels let me , at least, suggest a Great one in Venice - http://www.hotelcasanova.it/
Located directly behind Piazza san Marco and easy walking to Rialto area and other great sites!! My friends Franco, Dario, and Stefano man the front desk and will take excellent care of you - A nice FREE breakfast each morning.

I would have some patience. Even when tickets are released, there will be plenty of time and the price will not be any better than if you waited even 6 or 9 months to purchase. Many hotels as well do not like to book out that far, unless it is a special event (Octoberfest in Munich, Carnival in Venice, etc.) so plan for now and act later.
