Book our trains ahead or wing it? Leaving Saturday!

Hi everyone, I was hoping for some advice, based on the dates and places we'll be, on whether we should book our trains ahead or wait until we are in each city. If it can be avoided, we prefer to not be locked into a purchased ticket so we can really just go with the flow. However, if it is risky (i.e., we could be locked out of the train we nee) we would consider purchasing ahead. Would you offer your advice based on our itinerary below? Thank you! Tues, May 24: Need to train from Venice to Florence, where we will then pick up a car and drive to Radda in Chianti. Is this a day that we should pre-book or OK to wait? Tuesday, May 31: Train from Rome to Sorrento (or I believe first to Naples, then Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento). Do we need to book ahead on this date to Naples? How about the subsequent C. train to Sorrento? I'm thinking that's the kind we cannot book. Friday, June 3: We need to get from Sorrento hotel to Naples airport for noon flight. I'm considering booking a private transfer so as not to have to leave Italy in a stressful dash via two trains. The cost I've been quoted is $203.50 USD. Thoughts or advice on that? Thank you much!

There is no need to book ahead unless you want to. You will mostly be traveling mid-week so there should be plenty of seats available. Just get to the station about half an hour early to buy your tickets and get to the platform. Donna

Hi Donna, That is what I was hoping to hear! Thanks so much. Also, I just found a note I wrote to myself from RS Italy 2100 about a bus from Sorrento to Naples airport. Has anyone taken this? Recommend? It says it's only 10 Euro. And also how about the hydrofoil instead of the circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento? Any thoughts? Thank you again!
