We are looking into taking the train from Rome to Munich. Is there a preferred provider? Will one location have better prices than the other. Should I use the booking agent for the country I'm leaving or arriving in?

If you are looking at the night train, it is operated by City Night Line, a division of Deutsche Bahn, so I'd start there. All other trains originate with Italian Freccia trains, so go with Trenitalia for day trains.

I looked at DB Bahn and Italia. Italia for the same night train with no stops is cheaper. Figure. Looked up same train on both sites.
