I have 3 days after a few days in Munich and I was planning to spend it in Austria (I have been to Salzburg and Vienna but not to Zell am See)but I am wondering if Bolzano would be a better choice. We like mountains and great scenery as well as hiking and walking, and I know
Austria will provide that but is Bolzano close to the Dolomites? I admit that I have not yet done any research so I would like to just hear of your experiences and activities in Bolzano. Thanks!

Bozano is pleasant and a nice stop on the way to the Dolomites, but it is not close enough that you feel you are "in" the mountains, and I wouldn't want to do dayhikes from there. Why not go to Castelrotto, or better yet, Siusi or one of the towns in the Val Gardena? Then you will have a view of the dolomites right from you rbalcony, and you are close to the lifts and traisl for hiking.
