Bolzano on May 1st

Hi,
My wife and I along with our daughter and 9 year old grandson will be in Bolzano on May 1st and 2nd. I’ve read during this time of the year that some of the attractions are not open. Has anyone traveled there during this time that could offer some insight for a range of ages?

Bolzano is a beautiful town in a very interesting bilingual (Italian/German) area. Allow time to enjoy the architecture in addition to seeing the brilliant Otzi exhibition at the archaeological museum, which will be very interesting to everyone, including your grandson.

The Ritten lift in Bolzano will whisk you by cable car up to Soprabolzano/Oberbozen, from which you can walk/hike and/or take the little narrow-gauge train on to Klobenstein/Collalbo. Here's some information: https://www.suedtirol.info/en/en/information/mobility-and-barrier-free-accessibility/local-transport-in-south-tyrol/rittner-cable-car

If you want to walk or hike higher up, that will involve a bus from Bolzano to the base of a lift. Others will be able to make more specific suggestions. Lifts do open at different times; I don't know which of the higher-altitude lifts are likely to be open on May 1.

Although Bolzano is a gateway to the Dolomites, it is not actually up in the mountains. Be aware that it can be shockingly warm down in the city. For example, last year the high temperature on May 1 and May 2 was 84F. On the other hand, the high on May 22 was 59F, so there's a broad range of possibilities.

If you go up to the Alpe di Siusi, it is likely to be considerably cooler and could be quite windy. I'd want a warm layer (fleece probably OK) and a waterproof/windproof jacket up there. Two years ago I went up on a nice day in early September and regretted not having worn long john bottoms; the wind was rather cold.
